Gerli Liivamägi was born in Estonia. In 2000 Gerli started her Semiology studies at Tartu University. After writing her BA thesis relating semiotic theory to fashion, she moved on from explaining fashion as phenomenon to creating fashion herself. In 2008 she graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a masters degree in fashion design. While studying at the Estonian Academy, she won a scholarship for a one-year exchange at the Politecnico di Milano. After this international experience, Gerli decided to leave her native Estonia after having finished her studies. With a suitcase full of her own collections she arrived in Paris in spring 2009, where she started an internship at Couture House On Aura Tout Vu. After six months of couture experience at the latter, Gerli decided to continue by taking up an assisting position for the Swedish designer Lovisa Burfitt. 7 months passed and Gerli decided to fill her suitcases again. This time she flew over the channel and stepped off the plane in London where she started working in the styling department of Net-a-porter.com. Currently Gerli is busy writing the next chapter of her London adventures in fashion.
To be continued.
